How to Pack Your Holiday Decorations to Make Your Future Self Happy

The Holidays can be wonderful. The house transforms and everything feels especially magical and bright, but somehow in those days between Christmas and New Year’s Day, the glitter starts to fade and all we can see is the big task that’s in front of us, taking everything down.

It can feel like such a daunting task to undo all of our hard work, pack it up, not break everything and remember where everything is the following year. We have a few tips to help you store and organize your holiday decor to make your future self happy.

How to Set Yourself Up for Success Next Year

  1. Clear Out and Donate | Take inventory of everything you have. Decide what you can donate and what it’s time to let go of. If anything is broken or no longer sparks holiday joy, let it go now rather than packing it up only to be disappointed when you unpack it in the future.
    2. Wrap Up Valuables | There’s nothing worse than getting out your holiday decorations only to find one of your favorite ornaments or snow globes has broken in storage. Wrap everything up well so that you keep your valuables protected!
    3. Clear Containers Are Your Friend | Being able to see everything is only going to help you. Being able to open the garage or closet and see everything you have, and what you may need, will make the process so much smoother.
    4. Group Like Items | This one is huge. As much as you can, try to group like items. It’s helpful to pack everything together either item by item or room by room. This makes it easy to slowly put up your decorations over time and complete one task at a time.
    4. Label, label, label | Label all boxes and containers. This is the most helpful trick that makes it possible for you to reference everything quickly.
